Last year, the MPO adopted a regional safety plan that included five required federal safety performance measures. These performance measures are the primary mechanism for the MPO to track safety performance measures over time. As part of the federal requirements for performance based planning, the MPO is now required to establish targets for these five safety measures. The MPO has the option to adopt the state targets or to establish their own targets for reporting purposes.
At the November 2017 Transportation Planning Committee meeting, staff recommended that the MPC adopt the state targets and that this support of state targets would be reviewed on an annual basis. TPC also recommended that the MPO discuss developing specific regional targets for vulnerable users outside of the framework of federal performance measures.
