The Metropolitan Policy Committee (MPC) previously programmed $1,123,000.18 in MPO discretionary STBG-U funds for preliminary engineering for The City of Eugene’s Seismic Bridges project (key# 20914). The City of Eugene is now proposing to split $400,000 of these funds to increase the funding for preliminary engineering of The City of Eugene’s Coburg Rd: Ferry St Bridge & Willamette River Bridge project (key# 20294), which is currently funded through the National Highway Performance Program. This requires an amendment to the Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program (MTIP).
If the MPO and City elect to fund construction of the seismic upgrades, these funds can be combined with the minor repairs construction phase (saving money and reducing public inconvenience of having two construction projects on one bridge within a few years of one other).
A public comment period on the proposed amendment is open from March 30, 2018 through April 28, 2018. A public hearing is scheduled for the April 5, 2018 MPC meeting, with action on the request scheduled for the May 3, 2018 meeting.
